Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a wife, mother, animal lover, an interior designer, gardener, and lover of the great outdoors. I have been practicing my passion of interior design for the past 25 years, and with my business partner, Lynette Zambon, through our company Design Associates, we have been very successful in creating gorgeous interiors.
How would you describe your design style and what is one signature piece you love to use?
I would describe my design style as classic, timeless, elegant, yet functional. In my designs, I would not say that I have or use “one signature piece”. Each client has their own specific tastes and wants and my job is to design, enhance, and create something beautiful that speaks to that client’s desires, dreams, and lifestyle. With each client, I start anew with fresh ideas and a fresh palette. Not only is the visual concept of importance, but the functionality of certain pieces, or rooms must be considered. Then I must ensure that the entire home is cohesive in its style, look, and function so that walking from room to room the flow and feeling creates a perfect sense of serenity.
What advice would you have for a homeowner thinking about redesigning?
Advice that I would give to a homeowner thinking about redesigning would be to always go with a professional licensed interior designer, contractor, and technician; also, have an idea or pictures of how you envision the space, and have a budget in mind.
What’s one design or flooring trend to watch in 2017?
One design or flooring trend to watch for in 2017, is the return of natural tones, textures, and materials. For woods, we are seeing a lot of either very light or very dark woods, or grey! The woods are either very smooth and sleek or at the opposite end of the spectrum, being very rustic with knots and distressed elements showing through. In tiles, organic warm-toned tiles, like terra cotta are making a comeback. In carpets, neutrals in a thicker, plush wool is what is popular in our region.
