At Floor Coverings International of Bozeman, we love doing interviews with bloggers who have creative and unique ideas. Dinah Wulf is the blogger behind DIY Inspired, and was kind enough to answer some questions and share her knowledge about how she got started in the DIY world! You can check out her blog at DIYInspired.com!
Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hi there! I’m Dinah, SoCal wife and mother of one with one on the way. I’m an anal retentive, rule following, people pleaser. I love coffee, music, dancing, and finding a great bargain.
Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
My husband and I decided that I should stay home when I got pregnant with my daughter, Mia. When she was about 6 months old (and I had maxed out my farm on Farmville), I knew I needed a creative outlet and needed to feel fulfilled. Becoming a mother was amazing but as a former business owner and teacher, I wanted a way to express myself in a different way. My blog was my answer to this. It was something that I had complete control over, with no rules, and allowed me the creative freedom that I craved. I became obsessed and it soon became a passion, and eventually a business.
How would you describe your décor and DIY style?
My style is eclectic. I would call it “industrial chic”. I am drawn to both old and new, antique and modern.
Where do you find most of your inspiration?
I’m a trash to treasure type of girl. On the weekends, you will find me at flea markets, swap meets, thrift stores, garage sales, and antique shops. I’m inspired by it all.
Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
I am proud of several, but I do have a favorite. I made a play kitchen area for my daughter and she plays with it almost every day. I transformed some thrift store and garage sale pieces into matching kid-sized kitchen hutches and stools. I also upcycled an old wooden play table and chairs that I got for free. I made the whole set for about forty dollars.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I feel very fortunate to do what I love for a living. My blog has rewarded me with some amazing opportunities including traveling and meeting incredible people. I have even been in a few magazines and on a DIY show. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, and I am so thankful for that. Thank you so much for reading!
